Eat, Drink and Be Merry

A merry heart does good like medicine. There is that special light that shines on our faces after we have enjoyed a good meal….. and it shines even brighter when the meal is healthy and coupled with a healthy drink. I am happy when I open my refrigerator and I see food and drinks that make me feel good inside. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to put you in a good mood.

I try my best to make sure I eat a salad everyday. That means, my search for salad recipes is never ending. This is one of my go-to salads, very easy to make and since I love everything colorful, I have no choice but to fall in love with this salad.

Quinoa Salad

1C cooked quinoa 1/2C yellow pepper 1/2C red pepper 1/2C cilantro 1/2C red cabbage 1/4C feta cheese Dressing: whisk together a pinch of sea salt, a tablespoon of olive oil, a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar and a teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice.

It is also one of those special salads that you can use for your meal prep. Ingredients remain fresh for your four/five days and you will be sure to enjoy your daily salad intake. Just make sure you add the dressing right before consumption.

Although we tend to think of it as a summertime concern, dehydration doesn’t disfavor the cooler months. The harder your body works, the more you need to drink water. I hear people telling me that they sometimes forget to drink water when the temperatures are cool. There are others who love water and drink it even when the temperature is below zero. If you know that water is not one of your favorite beverages, you have to forcefully make it your number one. Your body will thank you later. I usually make my water look pretty and colorful. That way, it is almost like having a party whenever I open my refrigerator.

Lemon Water: This has become a popular morning beverage amongst many people, since it’s been claimed to help improve your mood, energy levels, immune system and metabolic health. I do not usually add other ingredients to my water, but you are free to add your own ingredients. Lemon water is a great antioxidant and will help protect your cells from damage. And for me, it definitely helps me with my athletic performance as I have made it a morning ritual to have at least a glass of lemon water first thing in the morning before my workout.

Cuke Water

Sometimes, it is amazing to give yourself a spa treat as you get to enjoy this spa water in the comfort of your own kitchen. Enjoy this healthy, refreshing drink while sipping glasses of it at home. It is delicious and who would have thought that something that appears a little fancy like this would take less than five minutes to prep. Just like lemon water, it is also a great antioxidant. And since cucumber is a good source of potassium, drinking cucumber water would help to lower your blood pressure. It is also good for your skin. So, enjoy this drink and glow.

Orange Water

Personally, I love adding orange slices to my water because it makes it look pretty. And, I also noticed that making water pretty and colorful is a good way to have kids drink their water. Whenever I am expecting little friends, I make the water look colorful and it is fun watching them enjoy it as much as they enjoy their candy. Oranges are full of nutrients and orange peels are a great source of fiber. Eating oranges or drinking oranges in your water, around cold and flu season may help to protect you from those nasty bugs.

There you have it friends, eat your salad and drink any of these detox waters and you will be left with no option, but to be merry (and healthy). And with that, it would help you maintain an organized life.

Cheers from my Corner to Yours!!
